Alex G is one of YouTube’s top female singers. Since she opened her channel in November 2010 she has uploaded 75 videos including 8 original songs. She currently holds just over 500,000 subscribers and her videos have been viewed 70 million times. She’s kind of a big deal.
What exactly can we call Alex, though? Well, she matter-of-factly refers to herself as “a singer/songwriter who posts covers and originals” and that could not be more true. She’s not some diva, though. When you watch an Alex G video you can tell that she’s just a regular girl with an incredible talent. She is in no way pretentious, arrogant, or boring.
Alex loves performing popular songs acoustically, so you’re going to see that a lot. She also is friends with many of YouTube’s top musicians, so expect a lot of collaborations. Some who collaborate often with her include Tyler Ward and Eppic, both of which are powerhouses in YouTube music.
On a side note: I am not sure who does her camerawork and editing (not every video, but if you watch a few you’ll know which), but whoever it is is extremely good at it.
She has also uploaded 6 to the “Beauty videos” playlist on her channel page. This seems to be a pattern with female YouTube singers. So girls: if you want to look like Alex G, she’ll teach you how.
My current favorite video by her is a cover/remix of “I Knew You Were Trouble” by Taylor Swift which she did with Eppic performing an added rap verse. I really enjoy this video because it conveys the feeling that I originally had when I first heard the song. Here, watch it and spread rumors about Alex and Eppic being together.
