For this week I figured I’d stay in the great state of New York, and even keep it relatively Upstate. You probably already know who Alex Goot is, but I’m going to tell you about him anyway. Alex started GootMusic, his YouTube channel, in 2007. At first his videos were simple and consisted of him singing and playing piano or guitar. He switched up his style shortly after and began mixing and layering music from various instruments, effectively becoming a one-man band.
As I’m writing this, Goot has just under one million subscribers, placing him as the 233rd most-subscribed YouTube channel overall. His unique, slightly raspy vocal style and quirky look have placed him firmly among YouTube’s musical elite. He has produced videos with many other YouTubers including Megan Nicole, Christina Grimmie, Boyce Avenue, and Against The Current (I may or may not have listed a few future post topics just now… oops).
The standard for YouTubers is to focus on covering songs, especially those that are popular, in an attempt to get the most possible viewers on a given video. This is a tried and true trick that Alex does take advantage of, but that’s not to say he doesn’t write music. Goot has released multiple original songs on his channel, including his song Lightning, which I will show you here:
Try not to spend the rest of your day today going through Goot’s back catalog of videos. If you do, though, remember who sent you.
