Broadcasting legend Larry King joined Ryan's radio show for a full hour Thursday to talk about potentially returning to radio after leaving CNN, rumors of joiningDancing With The Stars, and his legacy in broadcasting.
When asked whether he would consider doing Dancing he told us that executives did ask him to go on 4 years ago and thought about it for a while. However after "having interviewed all the people that go on," he said, "and listen to what they go through...no." He then added, "I just think it's embarrassing. I'm not a dancer but my wife I think...I'm telling them now ask her."
When asked about whether he would consider taking Dr. Laura's position, who just announced her leaving radio, he said, "This advice thing, I cold do that couldn't I...I got the name of it...I would do, Larry King Helps Do Your Thing." He then joked, "People call in with problems, I help them. Because I've had every known problem!"
At the end of the interview, King got a little sentimental when asked about his epic 25 years at CNN ending. "They're mixed. Colin Powell told me, it was a great thing he told me, he says that in the New York City subway system, you know when the train gets to the last stop it turns around again...he said brigadier general told him in Vietnam 'you know Colin when you get the last stop, get off.' It was time to get off...there are going to be nights I'm really going to miss it...I'm going to do four specials a year..I certainly couldn't leave leave."
When asked if he knew who was going to replace him, King said that he did not but, "it's going to be hard for whoever does it,but I want CNN to thrive." He also stated that he would watch whoever is taking his place and he hopes they "do well."
In terms of his 'dream gig,' Larry explained, "I'd like to do a show with Shawn...there have been so many rumors about you and me (Ryan), I wouldn't mind that at all...I love radio... You can get away with a lot of things in radio." Ryan then asked King one final question, "What will you do the first day, when you're not getting up, same routine, same grind, getting ready to do Larry King Live?" "Cry," King replied.
